Cinnabar Valley

Elementary School

Our School

Welcome to Cinnabar Valley Elementary

Working together with our school community, our mission is to ensure a safe, supportive and respectful environment which promotes the development of individual potential and enthusiasm for life-long learning.

Established in 2001, our school has been a pillar of education in Cinnabar Valley. Nestled in the heart of this vibrant community, we currently cater to 274 students, with anticipated growth in the years to come. Recognized as the “Valley Vipers,” our school boasts a proud history of academic, athletic, and artistic accomplishments among its students.

Cinnabar Valley is dedicated to Restorative Practices, actively engaging in teaching Positive Behaviour to students and implementing a system of intervention and support. As part of this initiative, students receive Valley Virtue Tickets for demonstrating positive behaviours, contributing to weekly and monthly draws, and earning additional recognition through announcements and monthly virtue assemblies.

In 2017-2018, we adopted “The Golden Rule” as a focal point, emphasizing the importance of treating others the way you want to be treated. Students explore their roles as learners through an examination of the Core Competencies, including Communication, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Personal Awareness and Responsibility, Positive Personal and Cultural Identity, and Social Responsibility.

We extend a warm welcome to all to join our thriving learning community! We trust that you will enjoy your time with us.

Principal’s Message

Welcome to all our returning students, new students, parents, and staff! At Cinnabar School, we take pride in being a caring community of learners. Each year, I am struck by the dedication and nurturing spirit of every staff member. I believe you and your children will see this care reflected in our teachers’ eyes and in the way they support your child. We are here for both you and your child, and our goal is to ensure every student has a year full of learning, growth, and success.

This year, we are pleased to welcome several new faces (and some returning staff) to our Cinnabar family:

  • Cynthia Blake – Indigenous Culture Student Support
  • Tabitha Oakley – Temporary Grade 6/7 teacher, replacing Ms. Patton who has retired
  • Colton Goldsburg – Temporary Grade 5/6 teacher, covering for Ms. Tomlinson who is on leave
  • Emilee Kirkpatrick – Temporary prep teacher, covering for Natasha Gaucher who is on maternity leave

We are thrilled to have such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable group of educators joining our team. At Cinnabar, we know that students thrive best when families and teachers work together. Communication is key, and our teachers will maintain regular contact with parents. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher or to me directly at 250-716-1030 or via email at colette.young@sd68.bc.ca.

We also look forward to welcoming you on September 3 for our Meet and Greet morning! This is a wonderful opportunity to meet some of our staff and PAC members while enjoying refreshments and connecting with other families.

Sincerely,

Colette Young
